Scientist in war time

Publié le 7 Mars 2023

Current situation is frankly difficult.

Last years, I have seen the end of funds in best international research groups working like a blade on talented people's jobs. There are no gifts. Hard work (beyond legal working time) is the only way to keep a bit of normality in the dry landscape of public funding, and to hope continuing until contracts would simply no longer be renewed. People are disposable. Even the bests.

Young researchers don't know that. They come and believe they are the best, able to do anything. Only year by year, one realizes that every one thing that one has had benefited so far was some sort of protection prepared by few exceptional people who sacrificed their personal time to make the magic happening.

As a result, everything which is happening is a blessing. A chance. One really have to respect it, and to do our best to make things happening. With putting aside any egocentric feeling.

On top of that, there is war in Europe. I have been 2 months in Argentina, and can tell that life was much nicer there. Because there is no war there, but poverty for sure. Europe is presently being electrified by few psychopaths who got far too much power in their hands. Psychopaths are talented for reaching the top and destroying everything as a result. But success actually looks like the opposite. Success is equal to cultural diversity, it is equal to people working at their achievements that directly benefit to the others, it is equal to integration, openness and mutually beneficial social contributions. It has nothing to do with the rank.
